Ensuring Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program Funding Aligns with Needs - Carl Schmid, Deputy Executive Director
One of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy’s goals is to bring more people living with HIV into care and treatment and retain them in care in order to achieve viral suppression. The Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program (RWHAP) is critical to achieving this goal. The Strategy also discusses the importance of the need for funding to follow the epidemic. In order to achieve the Strategy’s goals, the RWHAP must continue to be funded and its grant awards should be following the epidemic.
This Workshop examined recent funding for each Part of the Ryan White Program, including the President’s budget and Congressional action, along with an update on the fiscal year 2017 appropriations process. Secondly, a nationwide analysis of current Ryan White Program funding distribution by Part was presented along with an analysis of the funding in relation to the number of HIV/AIDS cases per state. Lastly, the presentation shared analysis of the distribution of Part B Base and ADAP Supplemental Funding along with ideas for improving funding distribution to areas with unmet need.
